3rd Doctor : Jon Pertwee
The 3rd Doctor's Life, Companions, and Travels
The 3rd Doctor was nothing like his first two incarnations. This Doctor was tall, charming, suave, flamboyant, and a sophisticated man of action, while still being a scientist, a raconteur, and a bon vivant. Like the 1st Doctor, he too, did not suffer fools greatly and was a tetchy. Being banished to the 20th century earth as part of his 2nd Doctor punishment for the War Games, he unwillingly became the Scientific Adviser to U.N.I.T. ! Out of the all the Doctors, 3rd is arguably the most "hands on" when it came to fighting the bad guys, as he loved to use his own form of Venusian Aikido. Because of his dress, fighting moves, and his love for fast cars and cool gadgets, he is considered by many fans to be the Doctor Who version of James Bond.
As because of his banishment to Earth, The Time Lords removed his knowledge of time traveling laws and the Tardis' Dematerialisation Circuit so that he could not be able to leave Earth with his Tardis. Therefore, if the Doctor wanted to get around earth, he would have to find other ways to get around. "Bessie" became the new "Tardis" as it became his number 1 form of transportation on earth, even though he would use other vehicles as well.

Regenerating :
The 3rd Doctor's regeneration was much like that of the 1st Doctor's. In the 6 episode story arc Planet of the Spiders, the Doctor who had already served his punishment and was allowed to travel through time and space again, saved the day and Sarah and Jo Grant by defeating The Great One on the planet Metebelis 3. He used the blue crystal that the giant Queen Spider (The Great One) wanted against it to defeat and beat her and her army of giant spiders. Even though the 3rd Doctor was able to defeat The Great One with the blue crystal, he too was destroyed by the crystal. Using the crystal, the Doctor absorbed too much radiation and it was killing him. He was able to get back into his Tardis and travel back to earth, just to regenerate before the radiation killed him.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend :
Actor Jon Pertwee played the 3rd Doctor. Jon was born in 1919 in Chelsea, London. Before acting he joined the military and was a secret agent that fought against the Nazis, and this was hinted in the show Doctor Who in his role as the Doctor by his dress and actions.
