One of the most beloved Classic Who companions of all time, the Colonel / Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was a close friend of the Doctor and ally. His full name was Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. The Colonel / Brigadier was also the Former Commander of U.N.I.T. for the U.K. Currently his daughter, Kate Stewart, now runs U.N.I.T. for the U.K.
The Brigadier was the ONLY Classic Who Companion to see almost all of the different incarnations of the Doctor. Out of the eight Classic Who Doctors, He saw and traveled with five of them. (1st Doctor, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 7th). In the audio and novel formats the Brigadier traveled with the 8th Doctor as well. (In the four book comic series Prisoners of Time, NuWho Companion Adam Mitchell turns bad and kidnaps all of the Doctor's companions and kept them trapped between time lines. It took Doctors 1-11 {minus 8.5 / War Doctor} to save all the companions). Even from the grave, the Brigadier helped the 12th Doctor as a Cybermen in the two part-er episode(s) Dark Water / Death in Heaven. The only Doctor incarnations he hasn't traveled with is 6th and 8.5.
As the Commander for the U.K. for U.N.I.T., Brigadier Stewart hired the Doctor was a scientific advisor. When the Doctor first met Lethbridge Stewart was only a colonel and later was promoted both as Brigadier and as the Head of all of U.N.I.T.
