War Chief (Magnus)
The War Chief was a former friend of the Doctor who was known as Magnus when he attended the Time Lord Academy. He became a renegade Time Lord who helped the War Lords.
Life on Gallifrey
When on Gallifrey, he belonged to the Deca, the same Academy clique as the First Doctor. He had a particular interest in the construction of TARDISes. He became ambitious and arrogant. He devised a scheme to provide Gallifrey with a new power source derived from a sphere of artron energy. The Doctor discovered that the sphere was actually a living being and that Magnus’ actions were killing it.
Magnus began to rise in the Time Lord hierarchy. Cardinal Borusa saw this as a threat and persuaded the Celestial Intervention Agency to manufacture evidence against Magus. Believing to be a criminal, Magnus fled from Gallifrey and became a renegade.
Ally of the War Lords
Once free of Gallifrey, Magnus changed his name to the War Chief and aligned himself with the War Lords. They abducted soldiers from wars spread across Earth’s history and simulated the wars from which they came. The War Chief helped the War Lords build SIDRATs which were TARDIS-like machines that they used to kidnap the soldiers.
Aftermath
After escaping the situation with the War Lords and the Time Lords, the War Chief served as an occult advisor to Adolf Hitler in the hopes of changing history.
Personality
The War Chief was ambitious, arrogant, cunning, and had great tactical abilities. He pretended to be loyal to the War Lords while plotting to take control of them. Behind his actions lay real idealism which was tainted with power lust.
