Sandminer Robots
The society in and around Kaldor City was dependent on humanoid robots for servants and manual labour. The sandminers that were used to harvest minerals were almost entirely crewed by robots. Although superficially similar, the robots were constructed in several varieties:
Dums: The majority of the robots were Dums (D-Class). They were built without the ability to speak. They wore dark green tunics and were kept mostly to the engineering decks.
Vocs: The Voc robots (V-Class) had the power of speech. Voices performed essential control deck duties on a sandmen and were capable of running the vehicle without supervision. They also wore green tunics.
Super-Vocs: The Super-Vocs (SV-class) had enhanced decision making and organizational skills. The Super-Voc was the leader of the robots though still subservient to any of the authorised human crew. They wore silver tunics.
Technology
The robots were physically stronger and more durable than humans. It was assumed that protocols in their brains made it impossible for them to harm humans. A robotics genius such as Taren Capel could override this precaution. All robots were identified by their class letter and a unique number.
